Cool Truro 2009!
We are asking local residents and businesses to take steps to reduce electricity use by 10% or more. The contest ends April this year. To see how you are doing you should compare your next three power bills to the same period last year. In case you haven't heard we will be giving away some great prizes.
It's not too late to sign up for the contest

Nova Scotia, Canada and it's heating season!
Some folks have already made big strides in cutting back on power use...bulbs have been changed, electronic gadgets have been turned off. Well, there may still be some measures to take. For instance, how 'bout a weekly TV-free day or black-out game night? You'll get lots of ideas at Conserve Nova Scotia's site too: click here.
Although this contest is all about conserving electricity keep in mind that that electricity is not the only precious resource! You can keep your thermostat down while there are no occupants in the house, put on an extra sweater and a blanket at night.
Keep in mind if you have a woodstove or use candles for light (very romantic), keep your flu clean and never leave candles in a room unattended.
Another way to take stock of current use is to borrow a power meter from the Truro Library on Prince St. to measure how much power various appliances use. Or, even easier, see Nova Scotia Power's household Energy Calculator
